Horse racing tips for Clonmel on Thursday May 16

Today’s domestic action is in Clonmel, where Gordon Elliott should land the mares bumper with the twice-raced Bigbadandbeautiful.

Third to The Very Manon her debut at Navan in December, this daughter of Big Bad Bob then ran a cracker in a Grade 2 mares event at Leopardstown at the Dublin Racing Festival in early February.

Ridden then, as she will be today by Jamie Codd, the six-year-old came through to finish a creditable second to Santa Rossa, a mare which went on to finish in the frame in a similar event at Aintree and then filled fifth spot in the Grade 1 bumper won by Colreevy at the Punchestown Festival.

Elliott’s mare boasts the best form on offer and, unless one of the racecourse debutantes, Joseph o’Brien’s Lady Breffni or the Peter Fahey-trained Could Be Trouble, is well above average she should open her account.

Earlier, ‘Shark’ Hanlon’s Whatsinthecorner, making a quick reappearance after a close third to Lake Takapuna at Roscommon on Monday, should prove tough to beat in the Team Powerstown Handicap Hurdle.
