Horse racing punter celebrates winning £31,000 from a £12.50 acca in little over an hour

A punter is celebrating a windfall of over £30,000 after a lucky run of results on the races.

The sports fan placed a £12.50 each-way bet on five selections during Saturday's action – and saw them all gallop to victory. Their acca with bookmakers Betfair reached the huge payout in little over an hour.

First to run from the slip was Pic D’Orhy in the Grade 2 Silviniaco Conti Chase at Kempton. Continuing the excellent form of trainer Paul Nicholls' horses at weekend fixtures, the 6-4 favourite raced 16 lengths clear of the opposition.

Another well-fancied runner, Iroko (13-8f), sporting the JP McManus silks at Wetherby, was the second leg of the wager, which amounted to £25.

They had jockey Bridget Andrews to thank for getting the third selection, West Balboa (12-1), home by a narrow margin in the Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle.

On an excellent day for Dan Skelton, the Kempton big race winner was part of a 635-1 four-timer – but only just.

West Balboa was challenged strongly by the Nicholls-trained outsider Red Risk and gained the verdict by a short-head.

Wigley Group C lassic Handicap Chase hero Iwilldoit (12-1) was the fourth pick, defying a long absence in the Warwick mud.

Competing off a 7lb higher mark than his Welsh National heroics in December 2021, Sam Thomas' stayer still had a bit in hand and could be Grand National bound.

The final tip, Quick Draw (5-4f) justified favouritism over at Kempton, with Nico de Boinville in the saddle.

The punter netted £31,627.27 overall to round off a highly successful afternoon of betting.

Betfair spokesperson Barry Orr said: "It was a whirlwind hour and ten minutes for the customer. To pick a couple of 12-1 winners with three short-priced winning favs was inspired work. Well done to them."
