Horse-loving Dumfries family hold very own Grand National for charity

A horse-loving family recreated their very own Grand National to raise cash for charity.

The Raes from Wallacetown near Dumfries set up a course at their farm for their Welsh mountain pony Destiny to complete. It included their own version of the famous Chair, which is a fence in the National at Aintree Racecourse.

So far, the family has raised £120 for the Injured Jockeys Fund which, since it was founded in 1964, has helped more than 1,000 jockeys and their families and has paid out more than £18m in charitable assistance.

Mum Sam Rae’s children Lexi and Lachlan along with their cousin Anna Wardrop helped to guide Destiny round the four-mile, two and a half furlong course.

Sam said: “We’re so pleased in such strange times to get any donation. Destiny is a sweet Welsh mountain A pony who normally just plods around with our sheep.

“It was fun to do and the whole family joined in.”
