A jockey has been injured and his horse has died after a fall during a race at Moonee Valley racecourse.
Teo Nugent and racehorse Florescent Star fell on Saturday afternoon during race six at the Abell Stakes.
Nugent appeared to be trampled as he fell, and the mare fell over the racetrack barrier.
The 24-year-old was immediately attended to by medics while veterinarians attended to the horse.
Within minutes of the fall, Nugent was reportedly "conscious and chatting to medical staff" and was moving his limbs, according to Racing Victoria. He was taken to Royal Melbourne hospital.
Racing Victoria later tweeted to say Nugent had fractured his neck.
"VJA Update: Initial scans from RMH reveal Teo has a fracture to his C1," the tweet said.
"More updates as advised."
A trackside onlooker told the ABC that Florescent Star "did not get up" following the fall.
Veterinarians euthanised the horse on the course due to injuries sustained during the race.
Florescent Star's trainers, Amy and Ash Yargi, said they were "devastated" at the horse's death.
Nugent's fall is the third in as many weeks at horse races in Melbourne.
