A horse had to be put down and another was injured after being hit by a car on a busy road.
The A472 near Pontllanfraith was closed for a time after the accident around 5.20am on Monday, January 13.
Gwent Police said the accident involved a vehicle and a horse who was badly injured.
A spokeswoman said: "A vet attended to the injured horse however a decision was made for the horse to be humanely destroyed."
The road was re-opened by 8.10am.
Another horse that was injured in the crash suffered an eye injury and is now back with their owner.
It is understood a third horse on the road was uninjured in the incident.
