A man travelling in a horse and cart has been killed following a collision with a car in southeast London.

A 30-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the incident, which took place shortly before 8.45am on Saturday.

The victim, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A2016 Eastern Way in Thamesmead.

The man's horse was seriously injured in the collision and subsequently put down, police said.

They added that they were working to trace and inform the dead man's next of kin.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward, especially motorists who may have dash-cam footage.
