Horror van smash on A96 leaves Scots pensioner ‘seriously injured’ as police launch probe

A motorist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after his motor collided with a van on an Aberdeenshire road.

Police locked down a section of the A96, north of Huntly, after a red Honda CR-V car crashed into a green Fiat Ducato van at around 9.15am on Wednesday.

The 67-year-old Honda driver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

And while a 37-year-old, who was behind the wheel of the other motor, sustained minor injuries, they did not have to go to hospital.

Officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and have appealed for fellow road users with dash cams to come forward.

Sergeant Craig McNeill, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "A man has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are appealing for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we're appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was in that area with a dash-cam fitted to their vehicle to contact us.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0641 of 16 February.
