Horror pictures show crumpled cars after crash on idyllic woodland road in Leeds

A woman was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries following a two-car crash on a road in north Leeds on Sunday evening.

The incident happened on Gledhow Valley Road, Gledhow, at around 8.15pm on Sunday, June 7 when a Nissan Leaf and Hyundai i30 were involved in a collision.

Photos taken moments after the incident show the road littered with debris from both cars near the junction with Well House Drive.

The bonnets on both vehicles were completely crumpled by the impact of the crash, with one of the cars shunted onto the grass verge and the other left straddled across both lanes.

Police were called to the scene at 8.17pm and arrived to find the driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 30s, with a broken arm. They closed the road in both directions for more than an hour.

Fire crews were also sent to the incident along with paramedics. They helped the woman out of the car and took her to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "A Nissan Leaf and Hyundai i30 were involved in a collision in Gledhow Valley Road at the junction with Well House Drive.

"The main casualty appears to have been the Nissan driver – a woman in her 30s who received a broken arm.

"The road reopened at 9.40pm after the vehicles were recovered and the scene cleared."

Gledhow Valley Road runs right through the heart of Gledhow Valley Woods, a 1.5 kilometre ribbon of woodland that links Oakwood and Gledhow.
