Horror moment people flee for their lives as killer gunman opens fire in shopping mall

The horrifying moment people fled for their lives as a killer gunman open fired in a shopping centre has been captured on camera.

Video footage shows the bone-chilling moment that dozens of people in the Field's shopping centre in Copenhagen ran for their lives.

Several people have been killed, police confirmed after earlier reports that multiple people were hit.

Blurry footage captured on phone captures the screams of terror as people flee through the shopping centre in the Danish capital.

A gunshot can be heard loudly ringing out as people race along the wide shopping centre and when another shot is fired more people scream.

The haunting footage was captured only a couple of hours before a Harry Styles concert was due to take place nearby.

Eyewitnesses described their confusion of seeing everyone run before they too heard the gunshots.

Danish police have confirmed they have arrested a 22-year-old Danish man and said they could not rule out an “act of terrorism”.

Copenhagen's mayor has described the incident as "very serious" while detectives warned people to stay away.

Police said: "If you have been to Fields, we encourage you to contact your relatives."

Footage published by tabloid Ekstra Bladet showed one person being carried by rescue workers into an ambulance on a stretcher.

The capital's main hospital, Rigshospitalet, had received a "small group of patients" for treatment from the incident, possibly more than three, a spokesman said.

It has also called in extra staff, including surgeons and nurses, the spokesman added.

Local media published images showing heavily armed police officers at the scene, as well as people running out of the mall.

Parents could be seen grabbing onto their children and fleeing.

British pop sensation Harry Styles was due to perform at 8pm local time at a concert venue less than a mile from the shopping centre where the shooting occurred.

Originally, it was indicated the concert would go ahead as planned but recent reports from Denmark indicate that it has since been cancelled.

Copenhagen Police said in a tweet about the incident: "We are still massively present in Fields and working to secure the entire building.

"If you are still in Fields, stay where you are and wait for the police."

Emilie Jeppesen and Astrid Kofoed Jørgensen, both 20, were in the shopping centre when they say they heard three or four gunshots.

Speaking to Jyllands Posten, Emilie said: "You didn’t know what was happening. Suddenly there was just chaos everywhere.

"We were sitting and going to eat and suddenly we could see people running.

"Then we first thought 'why do people run?' But then we could hear shots."

Police earlier said: "One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting in Fields. We currently do not have the opportunity to tell more about the person's identity."

There was currently no indication that other shooters were present, police added.
