Horror moment more than 1,000 tonnes of rock fall from cliffs made famous by Broadchurch

A chunk of Broadchurch’s iconic Dorset Cliffs was captured as it dramatically plunged into the sea.

Stunning aerial footage shows the moment that 1,000 tonnes of rock collapsed from a 150ft cliff on to the beach below.

The section of Jurassic Coast was made famous by ITV ’s detective show Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman.

Luckily, no one was on the Bridport beach at the time.

It was likely caused by slow erosion by the sea, combined with heavy rain.

Locals have been urged to stay away in case of further collapses at East Cliff in West Bay.

But the day after the rockfall several people were photographed walking dogs beside the pile of rocks.

Dorset Council described the landslide on Wednesday last week as “significant”.

It added: “Please stay away and do not attempt to clamber over the pile.

“You would be putting yourself and others at risk. The heavy rain over the last few weeks has made cliffs right along the Jurassic Coast unstable.”
