Horror moment gritter goes up in flames and explodes on busy Lanarkshire road

A gritter burst into flames and exploded on a busy Lanarkshire road tonight.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service raced to the A725 in Bellshill at around 9.30pm after reports of the fire.

Motorists were shocked to see flames ripping through the gritting lorry as it sat stationery on the busy motorway at the junction after McDonald's Bellshill. The gritter truck can then be seen exploding on another video taken by a local.

Two fire engines attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

There was no reported casualties or other vehicles involved.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We attended a reported gritter on fire on the A725 Bellshill at 9.31pm this evening.

Two appliances were deployed and the fire was extinguished. There was no other vehicles involved.

"We are no longer on site."
