Horror M8 crash after driver hits standing water during heavy rain

Police are warning about the dangers of driving on roads with standing water after a horrific crash on the M8.

Officers from Police Scotland took to social media yesterday showing the aftermath of the smash near junction two in Edinburgh .

It showed a car which flipped over after it aquaplaned on the carriageway.

As a result of the crash the exterior and inferior of the black vehicle were severely damaged.

Thankfully the driver wasn't seriously injured in the incident, however cops are now urging people to alter their driving styles during or after heavy rain.

The Road Policing Unit tweeted: "# WestLothianRP attended a call on the M8 this morning near junction 2. A car left the carriageway after hitting standing water.

"Please alter your driving style to changes in the weather.

"Always be vigilant when there has been heavy rain otherwise the consequences could be fatal."
