A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with a horror gunpoint robbery in Donegal.
The lone gunman stormed into a Spar Express in Glencar at around 9:40am yesterday morning.
Staff were left petrified as – after threatening those working in the store – the gunman fled on foot with a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes.
Thankfully, fast-acting Gardai arrested the man a short time later, seizing a suspected handgun, as well as cash and cigarettes.
Officers made the arrest after responding to reports of the theft of a vehicle, and have since sent the suspected gun to the Ballistics Unit for analysis.
The car was seized for technical examination.
A Garda spokeswoman said: “A man in his 20s was later arrested in connection with this robbery.
“He is currently detained at Letterkenny Garda Station.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
