Horror Game Rumor: 'SOMA' May Finally Get Dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Soon

The psychological horror game "SOMA" could soon receive a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, according to a reported listing on Nintendo's Japanese digital storefront.

The potential release would bring Frictional Games' acclaimed underwater horror experience to Nintendo's latest console with enhanced visuals and performance.

The original "SOMA" is already available on the Nintendo Switch. However, a dedicated Switch 2 Edition could provide a more polished experience for players who want to revisit the game's unsettling world on newer hardware.

'SOMA' Could Expand the Switch 2 Horror Game Lineup

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, publishers have continued bringing enhanced versions of existing games to the platform. The console has gradually built a broader library for horror fans, ranging from action-oriented survival horror to slower, story-driven psychological experiences.

"SOMA" would fit particularly well into that lineup.

Developed by Frictional Games, the studio known for the "Amnesia" series, "SOMA" focuses on exploration, atmosphere, and psychological tension rather than traditional combat.

According to GameRant, the game is set in an isolated underwater facility. It combines a disturbing narrative with claustrophobic environments and unsettling encounters. It's haunting and scary, especially for those who do not want to unravel the depths of closed places.

'SOMA' Switch 2 Edition Reportedly Listed in Japan

According to the reported Japanese Nintendo eShop listing, the SOMA Switch 2 Edition is scheduled to launch in Japan on July 23, 2026.

The rumored listing puts the game at ¥3,700, with a temporary 25% discount bringing the price to ¥2,775. Existing owners may also have access to an upgrade option.

However, details about a potential Western release remain unclear. Nintendo and Frictional Games have yet to provide broader confirmation regarding international availability or pricing.

The listing reportedly mentions improved resolution and image quality. At this stage, there is no confirmed indication that the new edition will include additional story content, new gameplay modes, or substantial changes to the original game.

'SOMA' Already Received a Switch 2 Enhancement

The reported dedicated edition is particularly interesting because SOMA previously received a Nintendo Switch 2 enhancement update.

Furthermore, the update improved the game's technical presentation, reportedly offering higher resolution, enhanced textures, more stable performance, and faster loading times. Existing owners were able to receive the improvements without having to purchase the game again.

There might be some questions about what the new Switch 2 Edition listing offers differently from the earlier enhanced version. The new release may be primarily a dedicated storefront version for Switch 2 rather than a completely different edition.

More details will be needed before the differences can be confirmed.
