Horror crash sends two cars flying off M61 and into trees

A terrifying crash sent two cars flying off the side of the M61 and into some trees in Bolton.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 5 for Westhougton and junction 4 for Farnworth at around 1.45pm today (May 7).

Police say a VW Polo was approaching the motorway when it collided with a Mercedes.

Both cars left the carriageway and crashed into some trees.

GMP Traffic officers confirmed no one had been injured in the incident.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: “Let's have a game of spot the car... The VW Polo was approaching J4 M61 when it collided with the Mercedes sending both cars into the trees.

“Amazingly no injuries and XT11 is speaking with the drivers now.”

According to traffic information websites, the collision has closed one lane on the M61 while officers and fire crews deal with the incident.

Traffic is currently coping well.
