Horror crash leaves man dead and two with serious injuries

A man died and two were left with serious injuries after a car slammed into a wall and tree before careering into a garden.

Police are appealing for information after the horror crash on Southport Road, Scarisbrick, at around 9.50pm last night.

The collision only appeared to involve one vehicle, a Volvo V70, and the road was closed for around six hours while emergency services attended.

The rear seat passenger, a 44-year-old man from Sefton , was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 26-year-old Southport man, received spinal and rib fractures while the front seat passenger, a 43-year-old man from Sefton, suffered fractures to his ribs and sternum.

Police said they were looking into the circumstances (Manchester Evening News)

Both injured men remain in hospital and their conditions are described as serious.

Lancashire Police said the car left the road and collided with a wall and a tree before coming to a rest in the garden of a residential property.

Sergeant Lee Harris of Lancashire’s Road Policing Unit, said: "A man has died and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

"We’re working to establish the circumstances of the collision and would ask that anyone who saw the vehicle described in the moments leading up to the collision, or the incident itself, speaks to us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should call Lancashire Police on 101 and quote log number 1482 of 29 May.
