Flames could be seen leaping from the roof of the block as eight fire engines battled the blaze.

Luckily no-one was seriously injured in the deliberate fire, started in one of the second floor homes.

The devastating blaze ripped through the building and caused serious damage as the charred remains of the flat block could be seen after the fire was brought under control.

Enquiries into the inferno are ongoing but officers say they are currently treating it as "wilful".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 4.40am on Sunday, 11 July, 2021 following the report of a fire on Bailie Terrace in Edinburgh.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire safely and there were no serious injuries.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the fire that is being treated as wilful."
