Horror at tower block as three police officers are taken to hospital after being attacked by knifeman

Three police officers were taken to hospital after being attacked by a man armed with a knife in Harpurhey.

The shocking incident happened at around 4.25am on Saturday at Kingsbridge Court on Kingsbridge Road when police were called to reports of a man 'causing a disturbance'.

The offender was said to be outside the tower block smashing up cars with a metal pole and in possession of a knife.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said three officers were injured and required treatment in hospital, including one male officer believed to have been stabbed.

It is understood a woman police officer first attempted to tackle the man and deployed her Taser.

A male colleague then tried to step in and help and was slashed. A third was also injured during the attempts to arrest the man before he was brought under control.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.
