Horror as Scots kitten has ‘throat slit’ after vanishing from Grangemouth home two weeks ago

A beloved Scots kitten has been found with his ‘throat slit’ after vanishing from his Grangemouth home two weeks ago.

The seven-month-old moggy - named Rudey - hadn’t been seen for a fortnight after disappearing from his home in Stirlingshire earlier this month.

But Rudey was discovered alive in the town on Thursday last week but had suffered a gruesome and painful wound across his neck.

Little Rudey is being treated by vets (Lyn's Small Animal Rehoming)

Generous campaigners have donated over £2,000 for his treatment as part of a GoFundMe to help with vet bills.

He’s currently undergoing almost daily observations at a local surgery.

It’s not known how the animal was injured but a local rescue centre has stepped in to help.

Lyn Reid, of Lyn’s Small Animal Rehoming, said: “It’s hard to say how Rudey was injured, it’s a very clean cut but the vet thinks it might have happened when he first went missing.

“So with all the infection and skin that’s already dead and can’t be saved we are in for a long hard fight with the wee guy.

“But he’s only seven months so deserves a chance.

“He’s to go every two days to the vet to have the gash packed, as well as painkiller and antibiotic injections and this will take months of treatment.

“His mandible is also showing so it’s not gonna be easy.”

“I really hope this has just been an accident and nobody is responsible.”

Both the cat's owner and the Scottish SPCA are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Chief superintendent Mike Flynn said, “We were shocked and saddened to hear of the kitten found in Grangemouth.

“This incident has not been reported to us and we would encourage anyone with any information to call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999 or Police Scotland on 101."
