Murder squad detectives are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed near the Cutty Sark tourist attraction in south east London on Friday.

Police were scrambled to reports of a knifing in Greenwich at just after 1am. They found a 30-year-old man in Welland Street suffering from stab injuries.

Officers administered CPR before paramedics arrived and took the victim to hospital where he died at 02.37am. Next of kin have been informed.

Another man, in his 20s, was also found nearby suffering from stab injuries. He was taken to hospital, though his condition is not thought to be life-threatening. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A crime scene, near the historic sailing ship, is in place as forensics officers trawl for clues.
