Horror as giant octopus attacks scuba diver by wrapping tentacles around his leg

A scuba diver had a shock underwater after being attacked by a giant octopus while exploring the Sea of Japan.

The diver from Mayak Gamov, Russia, desperately tried to shake the octopus off his feet as it wrapped around his limb with its large tentacles, according to news.com.au.

The footage, filmed on the Garrow Peninsula, shows the eight-legged animal latching onto the diver's body and tries to bite down on him with its sharp beak, hidden where its mouth is.

The man made a few attempts to pull away the octopus, but it moved down to his fins.

A man filming the scary incident can be heard yelling in the waters.

The octopus eventually gives up and swims back to the depths below.

It heads towards the rocks and changes its colour to blend with the seabed before it disappears under a rock.

Octopus are known to usually avoid humans and live in chilly, coastal waters along California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, Russia, Japan and the Korean Peninsula.

In 2017, a scuba diver was attacked by an octopus which managed to dislodge her mask and regulator when she and her husband diving in British Columbia, Canada.

Angela Damant was safe as the creature quickly retreated to the rocks.

Her husband, Marc, managed to take a picture of the bizarre moment.

He said: "I love the photos where a large octopus jumped out of a crack to interact with my wife and I love getting extreme close-up shots of them, so you can see the individual pigment sacks in the skin."
