Horror as Dublin woman stands in busy traffic screaming 'stop following me' to masked creep running after her

A woman has told of her horror of almost getting run over trying to get away from a creep who was following her in north Dublin earlier this week.

The local, who was on her own, said that she noticed the man walking behind her, overtaking her and disappearing before realising that he was walking behind her once again.

She said the 6ft sick perv - who was wearing all black including a cap and mask while carrying a backpack - started running after her when she began to sprint down the dark road.

The woman had to run onto the road stopping busy oncoming traffic in order to stop him from following her screaming at him before being told that he 'just wanted to get to know her'.

And now she is warning others to "buddy up" and "not wear earphones" if walking alone or they might not be as lucky as her.

She said: "Women in north Dublin need to be careful when walking alone. I was coming from work at around 7pm and a man dressed in all black started following me.

"He ran past me and I thought he had walked on but I turned around minutes later and he was behind me again.

"I ran down the rest of the road and turned to cross at a set of lights. He then ran after me, by which time I turned around and stood on the road."

The woman said she did not care about oncoming traffic and thought it was the only way he would stop coming after her.

"I screamed at him to 'stop following me' as loud as I possibly could, he just said that he 'wanted to get to know me'.

"I just yelled at him again by which time, a car stopped and came to my aid. He then ran away."

The distressed woman said that it was not safe for women to walk after dark.

She warned: "Please keep your wits about you when out. I wasn't listening to headphones either thank god. I will be carrying a torch from now on just to try and keep myself safe. Try and buddy up with a friend if you are walking after dark also. It really isn't safe."
