Horrifying scam sees criminals pose as NHS staff in bid to profit from coronavirus fears

Police have issued an urgent warning over a rise in con-artists using the coronavirus pandemic for profit.

The latest warning comes as scammers target Glasgow's most vulnerable by setting up a fake email account pretending to represent the government and NHS and asking for asking for charitable donations to help fund their efforts.

In actuality, hackers are trying to obtain personal and banking details.

In a statement Police Scotland wrote: "We're aware of an email scam going around which appears as if from the Government and NHS, asking for charitable donations to help fund their efforts.

"Criminals will use any opportunity they can to defraud the public out of money, often impersonating professional and legitimate organisations."

Police added that Glaswegians should remain 'skeptical' and never click on any attachments or links if they receive an email, text or WhatsApp in relation to #Coronavirus.
