Horrifying new Covid-19 advert shows stark reality of spread with green slime

A new Covid-19 advert from the Scottish government warns viewers just how easily the virus can spread, using a horrifying graphic.

The advert shows a young woman accidentally infecting her beloved grandad with the virus, which is represented as dirty green slime.

It’s extremely thought-provoking as the virus in real life is invisible and it can be hard to picture just how easily it travels around on our hands and in droplets.

The advert has received a mixed reaction as some say it really brought home how important things like hand washing is and how easy the virus is transmitted.

Others furiously accused the government of “scaremongering” and called for the advert to be banned.

In the clip, a young woman hugs her grandad and makes him a cup of tea, while spreading around green slime that can be easily seen all over the kitchen on everything she touches, including the kettle and cupboards.

During a close up of her face, you can also see the droplets spraying from her mouth as she smiles.

At the end of the chilling video, a message reads: “DON’T PASS CORONAVIRUS TO THOSE YOU LOVE.”

It warns: “2 households, 6 people, 2 metre distance.”

The video description on Youtube also reads: “Remember if you are meeting with friends it should be a maximum of 6 people from 2 households at a time (up to 4 households a day). Keep 2m apart, even from your friends.”

One viewer tweeted: “This is how it’s done!!!!! Well Scotland and @NicolaSturgeon. How lucky the Scots are to have such caring people looking after their well-being.”

Another added: “Shows just how quickly and easily this COVID19 is spread.”

“Scottish advert really hit the point,” remarked a third.

But other angry viewers claimed the video was spreading unnecessary fear.

“This pure scaremongering and nothing else,” tweeted one.

“If viruses were visible you'd be living in a plastic bubble for the rest of your life from fear,” wrote another.
