Terrifying images show the moment yobs armed with pick axes smashed their way into a Midlothian chiropodist.
The pair of vandals targeted Foot & Co in Loanhead in the early hours of Monday morning before opening time - trashing furniture and daubing paint on the wall.
Cops are now probing the raid while customers and locals were left shocked and disgusted.
Owners posted photos online with the message: “Help! In the early hours of this morning the clinic was broken into between 4.30-5am.
“Police have been great but if you think you can help could you let me know please? Thank you.”
Shocking images caught on CCTV show two dark-clad louts in hoods and masks running amok inside the premises.
Other photos show a glass-paneled door onto the street smashed and a glass counter shattered with red paint sprayed on a wall.
Customers of the popular business branded those responsible “scumbags” as they posted their reaction online.
Lisa Paris posted: “Absolutely shocking, so sad to hear this. I saw the police around this morning on my way to work and wondered what had happened. So sorry, what's the world coming to?”
And Susan Mitchell added: “So sorry to read this. People work so hard and these utter scumbags just think they can help themselves.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed officers are investigating and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
She added: “Officers are investigating a vandalism to a shop premises in Engine Road, Loadhead sometime between Sunday 9 August and Monday 10 August.
“Anyone who has any information as to who caused the damage is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting 0653 of Monday 10 August.”
