A shocked witness who lives across the road told the Record that he came across a scene of chaos.

He said: “I was cycling to the park with my young son.

“All you could see was this massive pool of blood all over the pavement.

“There was one woman in total hysteria, she couldn’t stop screaming and crying. That could have been the wee girl’s mum.

“There were another two women there who were in a state too.

“The ambulance arrived but didn’t leave for a good 20 minutes.”

A cordon was put up around the scene while police stood guard at the flats.

A top window was open and children’s toys could be seen in a black car within the cordon on the street below.

Staff at the nearby Park Bar said police had checked their CCTV for evidence.

Another local said they heard “constant screams”.

They added: “I thought someone had been murdered or broken into, then the ambulance arrived and we heard what happened.

“Hopefully, the wee girl pulls through.” Another neighbour said: “I heard lots of sirens.

“To think she’s fallen from the top floor is awful. It must be a parent’s worst nightmare.”

The cordon was removed at about 7pm and the window the girl is understood to have fallen from was closed.

Detective Inspector Steve Martin said: “The little girl has sustained very serious injuries and we are trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the child fall or anyone who has seen her at the window prior to her falling.

“A number of people were in the area at the time and assisted the girl.

“It is important that we speak to all of these people. If any of these people left before speaking to police, we urge them to contact us.

“I also ask motorists in the vicinity at around 2.10pm to check their dash-cam footage to see if they have captured the incident.”
