A woman attempting a DIY job at home has been left "mortified" after ruining both her carpet and her walls.
Melissa Ashleigh wanted to give her home a refresh by adding a fashionable dark grey carpet, but instead of splashing out hundreds of pounds on a new one, she thought she would try to dye the fabric herself.
But things quickly took a turn for the worst as she ended up with a carpet that was completely ruined, leaving herself and her walls covered in black paint.

The mum documented her failed DIY journey on her TikTok account @melissaashleigh0 in a series of viral videos.
She appears to spray her light coloured carpet with black dye, but didn't quite get the fashionable dark grey colour she had hoped for.
But she was able to laugh at herself, as she poked fun at the situation in the caption and left several laughing emojis alongside the words: "Thought I'd try dyeing my carpet."
People soon demanded an update on the disastrous situation and soon Melissa uploaded another video showing the extent of the damage.
She explained: "So this is the carpet, and these are the walls that I've ruined because I didn't use anything [to protect] up the sides. So yeah, it's going to need ripping out."

The videos left people online in stitches, as while most commenters felt sorry for the mum, others couldn't stop giggling at the disaster - with many saying it was an "instant regret" moment.
One person wrote: "This is what I would do but then instantly regret it."
While another said: "This is definitely one of those things you instantly regret."
And a third posted: "Oh my god, don't you hate it when you take up all those hours and then you don't like what you did and then have to pay extra?! Sorry hun, always worth a try though!"

Melissa's attempts to save money now means she may have to replace the carpet and get the walls repainted, adding on even further costs.
But some people encouraged her to keep going as she could still get the results she wanted.
Someone stated: "Yeah it's patchy, but girl, just do it two more times! It will be good then."
As someone else added: "You always have to do a few coats, like at least 2-3 coats. But not taping up the skirting boards is totally a mood but we always regret it after."
