Horrified mum discovers her son was eating an Aldi breadstick with metal in it

A mum was horrified to discover her 10-month-old son was eating a breadstick from Aldi with metal inside it.

The coil of silver metal was found within the bread stick, which Sophia Williams' son Lowen was eating.

The 31-year-old mother from Cornwall said she spotted something dark in the food and then realised it was metal.

The supermarket has now apologised and issued a product recall.

The Aldi customer said the other sticks in the box were also contaminated with bits of metal, BirminghamLive has reported.

Aldi has removed the product and supermarket bosses said they were aware of the issue.

Sophia said: "We recently bought a box of bread sticks from our local Aldi store in Liskeard Cornwall.

"My 10-month-old son was just eating one and I noticed something dark.

"Thankfully I took it off him to inspect and realised it was a coil of silver metal.

"I looked at other sticks in the pack and found they were also contaminated."

She added: "I didn't share the original post to shame Aldi as I fully understand incidents like this can occur with items produced in factories.

"I simply shared it to raise awareness as I have lots of friends with little ones who likely buy the same product."

The mum reported what happened to Aldi's customer service, who told her they were aware of the issue.

They informed her they and had taken the product off the shelves.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Our supplier has issued a recall for this product. Customers should not consume the affected batches but should return them to their nearest store for a full refund. We were sorry to hear of the Williams family's experience.”
