Horrified mum arrives at holiday villa to find utility knife and axe inside

A mum who arrived at her holiday villa with four young children, claims she discovered a razor-sharp utility knife and axe had been left inside.

Laura Broughton says her seven-year-old daughter discovered the knife, while she claims to have found the axe inside a kitchen cupboard.

Laura shared pictures of the disturbing discoveries at her Jet 2 Villas property in Turkey on social media.

Laura says she and her partner Simon McCormack also found loose lighting fixtures and a pool manhole with no cover.

The family, from Mansfield, Notts, were staying at the Villa Nurhan in Dalyan in the south-west of the country.

She complained on Jet2's Facebook page: "We entered the villa with four young children eager to explore.

"My seven-year-old daughter came running out of her bedroom with a blade bearing Stanley knife.

"The manhole to the pool exposed with no cover, bare wires on most of the electrical points and lights hanging from the ceilings! Showers hanging off of the walls."

She added: "We then discovered in a low kitchen cupboard that there was an axe placed that was accessible to everyone including our children, we couldn't believe our eyes."

After complaining, the family were relocated to another villa.

But they claim this only happened because of the help of an "external rep" and not Jet2 holidays.

"Unhappy is an understatement," she wrote. "[If] it was not for Carole, we would have been stuck in a dangerous villa with a potential fatality as you can clearly see from the pictures attached!"

On its website, Jet2 Villas describe the accommodation as "bright and airy" with "immaculately kept gardens."
Fellow social media users reacted with concern to her post.

Earlier this year two holidaymakers died at a Jet2 hotel in Bulgaria after contracting Legionnaires' disease.

John Cowan from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire and Brian Taylor from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, both died in June after contracting the fatal disease, which is caused by inhaling contaminated water droplets.

Following their deaths, customers were evacuated from the hotel by Jet2 as a precautionary measure.

A Jet2 spokeswoman said: “We apologise to the Broughton family for any inconvenience caused. Customer service is of the upmost importance to us and they have been moved to a different villa.

'We hope they enjoy the rest of their holiday.”
