An Irish mother was left disgusted as she claimed to discover mould in a carton of orange juice that ruined Christmas for her family.
The woman from Dublin said she was horrified when she cut open the carton she had purchased from a Lidl store, before finding what looked like a ‘skin peel’ rotting on the inside.
On Christmas morning, she had poured glasses of orange juice for herself, her husband and their one-year-old child but said they all felt "unwell" for two days after drinking it.
She later wondered why the empty orange juice carton still felt heavy after they had finished the juice inside and made the grim discovery when she cut it open.

A picture of the open carton shows a large quantity of an unidentified green and yellow substance on the inside. Another picture shows the expiration date on the orange juice which was not until May 2022.
She said the mould looked like “a cross between cardboard and skin peel” and days later she still “couldn’t bring herself to touch it”.
After making the discovery, she contacted Lidl’s customer service over Twitter on December 27.

She wrote: “@lidl_ireland I couldn’t understand why the carton was still heavy when it was empty… please tell me who I should contact.”
In a follow up message on January 2, she wrote: “I honestly still don’t know what it is. I can’t bring myself to actually touch it but it looks like a cross between cardboard and skin peel.
“There’s mould all over it. My husband, 1 year [old] and I all drank it Christmas morning and felt very unwell for the following two days.”
The Irish Mirror reached out to Lidl Ireland who said they are investigating the complaint.
