Horrified gran finds injured man slumped against window 'after being stabbed'

A terrified gran told of her horror at finding a man slumped against a house window with severe injuries after he had been stabbed.

Celia Mackinder, 52, was walking to work when she stumbled upon the injured man in the early hours of Friday morning.

She was left spooked after he told her he had been knifed in Witham, Hull.

But the kindhearted grandmother-to-three told police and helped the victim get aid, Hull Live reports.

Since then, Humberside Police in fact confirmed the man had not been stabbed and any injuries had been treated.

However, Celia said: "I’m a grandma-of-three and not much gets to me but something like that out of the blue, it scared me.

"I’m a trained first aider but I just went to pieces. It was that time of the day after Boxing day - I only passed about three people walking from Preston Road.

"Not much scares but this terrified me. I can’t remember the last time I was that scared."

The mum, who is a restaurant manager at a Burger King, added: "I was a woman, on her own in the early hours of the morning. I said, ‘who by?’ and he pointed off into the distance.

"He was holding his arm underneath his armpit under his jacket and looked injured - I could tell he had been drinking and didn’t feel comfortable.

"The police were brilliant and reassured me I’d done the right thing."

Police released an official appeal for information on Friday before it was understood the man was not attacked.

He's since contacted Celia to apologise for what happened.

Celia, from Hull, said: "He apologised the next day but said he hadn’t said it. He was drunk I was sober. If he hadn’t said I was stabbed, I wouldn’t have called the police.

"I know we have all done stupid things when were drunk but you can’t make comments like that."
