Horrified Gogglebox fans in tears as they rewatch violent abuse death

Gogglebox fans were in tears as they rewatched Chantelle Atkins' horrific death at the hands of abusive husband Gray on EastEnders.

The hit Channel 4 show returned this evening to air the reaction of its stars to the tragic moment on the BBC soap.

For over a year, viewers had watched Gray secretly abuse Chantelle, with none of her family realising what was really going on.

But it all came to a devastating end last week when Chantelle told Gray that she was leaving him and, in a fit of fury, he shoved her.

Chantelle fell backwards onto the open dishwasher full of knives and, instead of getting help, Gray left her to slowly bleed to death as he carefully constructed his alibi.

And viewers were horrified to have to watch the scenes again, though Channel 4 offered a warning beforehand that there were scenes of abuse and violence.

One tweeted: "F***ing hell is this the recap of the the most violent programmes on TV #Gogglebox."

A third wrote: "That was hard to watch #gogglebox."

"That was f***ing horrific. #Gogglebox," another commented.

One commented: "I still can’t get over Gray killing Chantelle #EastEnders #Gogglebox @bbceastenders."
