Horrified dad in blaze row after Audi car bursts into flames after it was parked

Christopher Little was horrified when his car burst into flames 20 minutes after it was parked.

The Audi A4 was written off in the freak blaze two weeks ago.

But he is being driven round the bend as neither nor his insurer is willing to have the cause investigated.

Christopher, 33, said: “Cars don’t just burst into flames for no reason. My gran was in the minutes beforehand.

“The fact someone could have been injured or killed to bother Audi or the insurance company.”

The motor went on fire randomly on October 13.

Christopher, who has a 15-year-old son, said: “My son’s mum was driving the car that day as I was at work. She had arrived back and parked outside the house.

“I received a panic call from her saying it was alight. The flames were coming from under the . By the time the fire brigade arrived minutes later, the whole thing was ablaze.

“It was put out quickly but my was a wreck.”

He called his insurer Esure, who recovered the car the next day. He also contacted Audi.

Christopher, a bakery process operator, said: “The car was an Audi-approved vehicle bought direct from their main dealer in Birmingham. It had been serviced at Audi in .

“The fire brigade told me an electrical fault was the likely cause and I wanted Audi to look into that as it had previously
suffered a fault with the exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR) and been fixed under warranty.”

Audi said it would investigate, which set Christopher’s mind at rest. But he added: “They later changed their tune and told me they didn’t have to.

“Esure, who had recovered the car, said they couldn’t contact Audi direct but would take a call if Audi got in touch with them.

“I spoke to Audi and passed on the details of who to contact at Esure. Now Audi say they don’t have to phone my insurance company and don’t plan to.”

Christopher, of Toryglen, , still has two years left to pay of a personal loan costing £260 a month.

He said: “I’ve had to fork out for a hire car as you don’t get a courtesy vehicle if yours is written off.

“Esure say they will cover the cost but why should I be forced to take the hit when none of this is my fault?

“I have 10 years’ no claims bonus which will disappear and I’ve been told to expect my £628 annual premium to rise to £1578. It’s ridiculous.”

I got on to Audi UK.

It said: “We were sorry to learn of the unfortunate incident.

“Routine procedure would be for the insurer to conduct a full if there was any indication of potential liability on the part of the manufacturer and to then contact the manufacturer with evidential proof in order to recover costs. On this occasion, Mr Little’s insurer has so far made no such approach to us.

“Our product safety specialists have reviewed the information and concluded there appears to be no evidence to suggest that the incident was caused by a manufacturing defect.

“We continue to remain open to dialogue with Mr Little’s insurer if it is felt that there is a need to explore the circumstances surrounding the incident in greater detail.”

An Esure spokesman said: “We have instructed a fire forensics examination to determine the cause of the damage and to resolve Mr Little’s claim.

“At this stage, we cannot categorically rule out .

“Once this is concluded, we will discuss the outcome with him, review the no claims discount and ensure the issue is resolved as quickly and fairly as possible.”
