A number of Garda cars and officers stormed an encampment site in north Dublin yesterday after one man was brutally assaulted in a frightening lunch time attack.
Quick-acting Gardai also arrested one man on site in connection with the attack who is currently being detained following the incident in the Clarehall area.
A huge Garda presence swarmed the scene on the Malahide Road, near the Clarehall Shopping Centre yesterday shortly before 1pm.
A man in his 40s sustained what is being described as non-life threatening injuries during the assault and was also treated on the scene.
The arrested man in his 20s was found in the area by Gardai and is still being held at Coolock Garda Station.
As many as five Garda cars and a van rushed to the scene to deal with the attack with the operation lasting nearly four hours.
Gardai are continuing to investigate the frightening assault.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We are investigating an assault on a man that occurred at approximately 12:40pm on Wednesday 1st July in the Malahide Road area of Dublin 17.
"A man in his 40s sustained non-life threatening injuries during the assault and was treated at the scene.
He added: "A man in his 20s was located in the area and arrested in connection with this incident by Gardaí.
"He is currently detained at Coolock Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Investigations are ongoing."
It is not the first time in the last few months that Gardai have swarmed the area.
In April, as many as 15 patrol cars, vans and even a Garda helicopter were deployed to a site near Belcamp Lane across from Clarehall Shopping Centre as part of a massive planned raid.
During that carefully coordinated operation, a child, a teenager and man in his 20s were all arrested for allegedly obstructing the course of justice.
