Horrific new footage shows laughing yobs launching fireworks at cops during Harehills Bonfire Night anarchy

Dramatic new footage has emerged showing the true scale of the anarchy in Harehills on Bonfire Night 2019 as the violent yobs behind the attacks on police are sentenced.

A five-hour police siege had to be launched to combat crowds of thugs who hurled rocks, fireworks and bricks at officers during a night of terror.

And now, for the first time, horrific footage captured on the evening can be seen in the video above.

The video shows missiles being fired at police who wore full riot gear to protect themselves from the ambush.

It also shows a gang of laughing yobs lobbing fireworks at officers in the middle of the street, with multiple explosions heard throughout the clip.

The assault prompted West Yorkshire Police to initiate a forcewide operation on November 5, 2019, as groups of teenagers and young adults launched rockets at police officers, police vehicles and buses in the Harehills area.

Six of those responsible for the terrifying scenes were charged with violent disorder, with three of them sentenced today by a judge at Leeds Crown Court.

The defendants were as follows:

  • Georgia Walker, aged 19, of Mexborough Grove, Chapeltown

  • Zohaib Ahmed, aged 19, of St Wilfrids Drive, Harehills

  • Nikolas Gasper, aged 18, of Victoria Road, Keighley

  • Josh Smith, aged 22, of Sutherland Road, Harehills

  • Leonard Gheorge, aged 19, of Shepherds Place, Chapeltown

  • Timotei Adavani, aged 20, of Seaforth Avenue, Harehills

Of those Walker was locked up for 18 months in a young offenders institute, with Ahmed jailed for two years and Smith ordered to serve 27 months behind bars.

Five youths were also charged and will be sentenced at Leeds Youth Court in March.
