Disabled girl's dad had 'skull smashed in parking row over handicapped space'

Photos show the horrific injuries sustained by the dad of a disabled girl who claims his skull was smashed during a row over a handicapped parking space.

Goran Velinov, 50, claims the unidentified attacker told him he was “sick of disabled people” before the alleged incident which happened in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Mr Velinov, whose daughter suffers from Down's syndrome , says the frontal bone in his skull was broken, as well as his cheekbone and jawbone in the alleged attack.

He also says he is now forced to tell his teenage daughter that 'dad had to fix his eye' when she asks about the injuries.

The suspects, named in local reports as T.M., 50, and Z.S., 24, were arrested the same day and both will be detained for 48 hours while a criminal report is taken to a prosecutor.

The alleged attack happened when Mr Velinov was waiting for his wife to return home with their 14-year-old daughter Lea, who suffers from Down’s syndrome and recently underwent heart surgery which prevents her from walking by herself.

When he spotted that the designated parking space for people with disabled badges was occupied by a non-badge holder, he asked two women near the car to call the driver.

But he claims that when the driver appeared he refused to move the car, telling the father he was “sick of disabled people”.

Mr Velinov said his 67-year-old neighbour, named only as Nikola, then came to back him up before one of the driver’s friends also joined in the row.

He said: “My neighbour told them that is not alright that they don’t want to move and that the woman would not be able to take the child out of the car."

One of them then allegedly hit his neighbour before Goran ended up being hit in the face as well.
