Horrific damage to car after M4 crash highlights dangers of wet weather driving

Police have used photos of a badly damaged car to warn other motorists of the danger of driving in wet weather.

The accident happened during wet weather on the M4 near Bridgend on Tuesday, June 16.

Traffic officers said they were "astonished" that the driver walked away from the crash with only "minor injuries".

They shared pictures of the car after it had crashed off the motorway and being recovered from the scene to show the extent of the damage.

South Wales Road Policing Units shared the pictures on Twitter and said: "Astonished that this driver walked away with minor injuries after losing control in wet weather on the M4 near Bridgend this morning.

"More rain on the way. Please drive to the conditions."

More heavy rain is forecast for Wales on Wednesday and Thursday with weather warnings in place for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

There is a warning of month's worth of rain in just two hours as s tormy weather continues.

The RAC warns that driving in heavy rain and flooding can be hazardous, and that urges motorists to plan journeys in advance.

They say: "Take care to avoid areas which are prone to flooding, and factor in extra time to allow for slower speeds and potential congestion.

"It is also a good idea to let relatives and friends know your intended route and expected time of arrival and where possible, travel with others."
