Horrific crash footage police want you to see as driver suffers life-changing injuries

Shocking dash cam footage shows the moment a lorry hits two cars at almost 50mph, leaving one of the drivers with life changing injuries.

Footage shows the lorry speeding along the road in Newark at 55mph, before slamming on the brakes and crashing into the vehicles at 49mph.

Police have released the horrific video as a stark warning to drivers - to pay attention at all times - reports Wales Online.

The collision caused a chain reaction as the two cars crashed into the back of another lorry.

The driver of the Renault Clio, a Leeds University student, was forced to drop out of university after suffering serious life-changing injuries.

She suffered a bleed on her brain, a broken back, broken neck, broken arm, broken ribs and a broken nose.

The victim also needed a number of operations after the devastating crash.

The driver of the Audi A1, who was travelling to visit her daughter in Leeds, also suffered significant injuries and ‘believed she was going to die that day’.

Price applied emergency braking when he was 15 metres away from the Clio.

At 55mph, it would have taken approximately 50 metres for the lorry to stop with emergency braking.

Inspector Heather Sutton, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the Newark and Sherwood area, said: “We have issued the dashcam footage, with the agreement of the victims, as a warning to drivers to pay attention when behind the wheel.

“Price’s dangerous driving caused catastrophic life-changing injuries within the space of a few seconds.

“It could all have been avoided if he had paid attention when behind the wheel. Now he has time to reflect on the consequences of his actions in prison.”

David Price, 65, of Chapel Lane, Manby, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 18 months in prison when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (7 November 2019) after pleading guilty.

He was also given a 29-month driving ban.
