Residents in the Cheshire town of Ellesmere Port have complained of an 'awful' stench.
Caroline Wilson, 49, claims the smell caused her to have an 'instant headache' and a 'heavy' chest.
The mother-of-one says she and her neighbours believed it to be a gas leak, and have raised their concern to the council, Cheshire Live reports.

While there are strong smells in the area 'now and again', Caroline says it's the 'worst it's been' over the past week.
The mum-of-one first noticed it last Saturday, where the smell 'instantly' hit her and left her feeling out of sorts.
Speaking this week, she said: "It's been awful and this weekend is the worst it has been, I woke up on Saturday morning and went outside then the smell instantly hit me and my chest felt really heavy.
"So I went back inside and when I did, my house stunk of it.
"You do get a lot of smells now and again, but the weekend it was just constant, Saturday morning was when I first noticed it and when I went to bed I could smell it again.
"Then on Sunday I noticed it again and had to shut my bedroom window because my room stunk of it.
"Then again on Monday morning, I let the dog out and I got an instant headache from the smell.
"I know I'm a smoker but it made my chest feel really heavy but I just didn't feel right.
"It's not right that we are breathing this in, my son is asthmatic and I thought of him breathing it in on his way to school," Caroline added.
"If it gave me an instant headache and made my chest feel funny, I was wondering how he would react but he was okay."
"I have spoken to neighbours on the street and they have also mentioned it, they thought they had a gas leak in the house," the householder said.
"I do believe that people have been calling the gas boards because they've been thinking they have had a gas leak in the house.
"It is a gaseous smell, it's not like household gas but it is a gas smell.
"I have put a complaint into the council but one complaint isn't good enough.
"Something needs to be done, it's horrendous and I'm waiting to see if it will happen again.
"It would be nice to have a solution to it, but the problem is tracking down where the smell is coming from.
"There's lots of places it could come from, people are speculating about where it is coming from."

Cheshire West and Chester Council has investigated the issue and stated that due to wind direction, the smell is most likely coming from industrial processes in the Eastham area.
A spokesperson said: "Cheshire West and Chester Council has investigated this incident and the most likely source of the odour is industrial.
"The wind direction was from due north and the wind speed was low with the area affected fairly compact.
"This means one of the industrial processes in the Eastham area is the most likely source.
"There are a couple of potential processes which could produce the odour described, which are outside of the borough, and regulated by the Environment Agency.
"The council does not have the statutory powers to pursue this matter further and complaints should be referred to the Environment Agency, so they can be fully investigated."
