'Horrendous' scenes as man 'knocked unconscious with single punch' outside pub

Bosses at a pub in Shaw have described the 'horrendous' scene after a man was 'knocked unconscious with a single punch' and rushed to hospital.

The 'disturbance' broke out outside the Coach & Horses pub on Market Street in the early hours of the morning on Saturday (March 11). Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were scrambled to the scene and a cordon was put in place.

Bosses at the pub said a 'lad got a single punch to the face' and 'was knocked out onto the road' in the 'horrible incident'. They described how staff gave him first aid until paramedics arrived and rushed him to hospital in an ambulance.

Police confirmed that a man - aged in his 30s - was taken to hospital from the scene. No arrests have been made yet and an investigation is ongoing.

In a statement posted on the Coach & Horses Facebook page last night, bosses Claire and Maz said: "Hello myself and my partner Maz would like to issue a statement about the horrendous events that took place outside our pub. For legal reasons we cannot name anyone.

"The incident occurred with the lad getting a single punch to his face. The velocity of which must have knocked him out as he hit the road directly outside our venue."

The statement added: "The victim had left our pub and was stood outside when the altercation happened. A single punch to the head can be deadly and as the lad was unconscious all I can do is commend our incredible team of staff for the speed and calm they showed with dealing with this horrible incident.

"My partner Maz delivered vital first aid to the young man along with our DJ who is also military trained and kept him breathing and safe until the paramedics arrived. The lad was still unconscious in the ambulance and once police arrived they had to work fast to preserve what had now become a crime scene.

"We have been working closely with the police and have asked for regular updates on the condition of the poor lad. He is stable and on his way to recovery.

"We will endeavour to keep delivering the highest standards and service to both our staff and customers and the whole community of Shaw. This incident has shook us all but we stand united along with the other locals pubs.

"We will continue to work to make Shaw a safer and better place to be as our pledge when we took over nearly 12 months ago. Much thanks Claire and Maz."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 2:25am on Saturday 11 March, Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a premises on Market Street, Shaw. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"No arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing."
