'Horrendous' Castle Park stabbing leaves man with serious injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses after a stabbing in Castle Park left a man with serious injuries.

Witnesses called 999 just before 4.30pm on Tuesday (November 5) to report a group of young people fighting near St Peter's Church.

Officers attended immediately to take details and look for those involved. Shortly before 5pm they were made aware of a man being treated for knife wounds in nearby Tower Hill.

The 27-year-old remains in hospital today (November 6) receiving treatment for serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Police confirmed today the attack was a stabbing.

A witness told Bristol Live he and his wife saw someone getting kicked in the head beside the church by a group of men he thought looked aged between 18 and 25.

“I’ve never seen anybody kick anybody like they kicked this bloke,” the witness said, describing the aggression as “horrendous and frightening”.

Police say there may be an increased police presence in the park over the next few days as officers target their patrols to give a reassurance presence for the community.

Despite a search and forensic examination of the scene, the weapon used in the attack has not yet been recovered.

An Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman said: "Were you in the park area at the time? Have you found a knife or other weapon which could have been used?

"If you have any information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help, get in touch with police through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or call 101, quoting reference 5219256341.

"Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call."
