'Horny' snake Elvis escapes southside home in search of a mate

A 'horny' snake has escaped his southside home in search of a mate, with his owner launching an appeal to trace him.

Five foot long California King snake Elvis was last seen in his vivarium in the Pollokshaws Road flat three days ago, not long after shedding his skin, 'looking all super shiny to go cruising'.

Ciorstaidh Alice McFarlane shared a post on Facebook advising people of his absence, saying Elvis is 'more adorable than scary', and he'll just be trying to attract attention as he goes out 'on the pull' during mating season.

Ciorstaidh, who lives in a flat above Stalks and Stelms grocery store in Shawlands, told Glasgow Live: "It’s mating season. He tries to escape every year but finally managed it this year.

"He shed last week so he’s all super shiny to go cruising!

"I probably shouldn’t have been telling him he’s a handsome boy every morning! He’s clearly over confident and on the pull now!

"He was last seen about three days ago. He was in his vivarium sleeping off a big mouse dinner. I changed his water and his lock must not have been wedged as tightly as normal. He knows what the lock is and hates it. The daft thing even tried to kill it a few times by constricting it! He’s a constricting snake not a venomous one.

Elvis is described as 'placid and friendly' (‎Ciorstaidh Alice MacFarlane‎)

"My mum has been on the phone laughing about him slithering away with some Barry White playing 'let’s slither on' as he goes."

Ciorstaidh was keen to emphasise Elvis, who has previously starred in a film and posed for photoshoots, is a friendly snake, concerned her fellow southsiders may attempt to attack him if they come across Elvis in the street.

She said: "If he’s scared he’ll rattle his tail and pretend to be a rattle snake. It’s his only defence mechanism."

"He’s really sweet and much loved. Every one of my friends who have been scared of snakes have been OK handling him. He’s so placid and friendly."
