The Charlotte Hornets officially re-signed power forward Marvin Williams, the last of five free agents to sign with the team since the NBA's moratorium ended July 7.
The team did not reveal contract details, but a source with knowledge of the agreement said Williams' contract is for four seasons and a total compensation of $54.5 million. The last season is a player option.
Williams, 30, originally signed to play in Charlotte in the summer of 2014. He had arguably his best NBA season in 2015-16, averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds. He also shot 40 percent from 3-point range and was a fine defender.
Once general manager Rich Cho had an agreement with Nic Batum to return to the Hornets July 1, he immediately went about coming to terms with Williams.
Williams couldn't sign that contract until after the Hornets signed free agents Roy Hibbert and Ramon Sessions because Hibbert and Sessions were signed with cap room. The Hornets were able to use the "Early Bird" exception to exceed the cap in re-signing Williams.
The "Early Bird" exception applies to a free agent who played two seasons for the team with which he's re-signing.
The Hornets now have 13 players under contract. They intend to do a sign-and-trade for shooting guard Troy Daniels, sending him to the Memphis Grizzlies. That will create a trade exception of about $1.6 million for the Hornets.
