Hornets head coach James Borrego compares Lonzo, LaMelo Ball

Lonzo and LaMelo Ball have drawn lots of comparisons for having similar aspects of their games on the court. While not identical, there are numerous similarities between the two, most notably in their passing and court vision.

Ahead of Friday’s first meeting between the two brothers, Hornets head coach James Borrego compared the two brothers and discussed the resemblances in their on-court playstyle.

“I think they’re leaders out there,” Borrego said. “They’ve got a great vision. You can tell they know the game at a high level. I think that’s the common thread is that they both understand the game at a high level and their teammates like playing with them. I think that’s the biggest thing.”

As point guards, both are used to commanding the offense and being leaders, as Borrego said. Their selfless playstyles make them easy players to play alongside at any level of the game.

It’s not a surprise that the two share playstyles given how close they have been growing up. On Thursday, the two spoke about the memorable battles they shared in the backyard, games that led to parents of neighborhood kids fearful.

After those days, Lonzo has served as a mentor for LaMelo as he’s followed in his footsteps, albeit in his own unconventional way. It’s all culminated in the two making it to the NBA in their own ways, even with similar styles.
