John Horgan has been named as Ireland's first press ombudsman. His main role will be to investigate and adjudicate complaints made by members of the public against newspapers and magazines. Horgan is a former professor of journalism at Dublin City University and has written several books, including Irish media: a critical history since 1922, and is a co-editor of Mapping Irish media: critical explorations.
