The equation is simple but the task facing Brisbane Roar is not as they go in search of three wins in their final three matches to have a chance of playing in the A-League Men play-offs.

The eighth-placed Roar host the Newcastle Jets, two positions below them on the ladder, at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

On 28 points, they will be hoping to initially try to catch sixth-placed Western Sydney, who are on 34 points and travel to Sydney FC on Sunday.

There are a raft of permutations that could result in an unlikely finals berth for the Roar but they all involve them winning games. They did that last week with a 2-1 away win against the Wanderers which was a sudden-death showdown for the visitors.

Attacking weapon Henry Hore scored his fifth goal of the campaign last week, equalling his best return for a season.

Hore thrives when his partnership with creative heartbeats of the Roar side Jay O'Shea, Marco Rojas, Keegan Jelacic and Florin Berenguer flourishes.

"It's great to play with them and we all have a connection and link up well," Hore said.

"Hopefully I can keep scoring. It was a good goal I scored on the weekend and one we practised from a set piece.

"Mathematically we can still make finals.

"The performances have been good. We haven't been getting the results but we got the three points last week and hopefully we can do it again."

Hore, 24, grew up in Queensland watching the Roar play regular finals and winning titles.

"I used to come to Suncorp and watch them play finals and that is what you want to be in as a player," Hore said.

"I haven't been in finals yet so hopefully we can push on this year."
