Hordes of passengers evacuated from Manchester Airport, with some left waiting on apron... it was a false alarm

Hordes of passengers were evacuated from Manchester Airport following a false alarm.

Images shared on social media showed crowds of holidaymakers stood outside on the apron.

Another image showed a large group of passengers evacuated to another section of the airport.

The incident happened in Terminal 2.

A spokesman for the airport confirmed it was a false alarm.

He said passengers were allowed back inside shortly after the alarm at around 1pm on Tuesday.

The incident does not appear to have caused any delays to flights.

One Twitter user posted: "Manchester Airport has just been evacuated - all stood on the runway waiting to hear what's happened."

Another wrote: "No staff know what is going on, everybody standing around."
