Horacio Sala 'could never overcome' tragic loss of son Emiliano

Horacio Sala was never able to recover from the tragic death of his son Emiliano, according to the mayor of his home town.

The 58-year-old passed away suddenly from a heart attack just three months after his son was killed on board a private jet after signing for Cardiff City.

Sala went missing travelling from Nantes to Cardiff shortly after completing his club record £15m move.

In another tragic turn of events for the family, his father passed away overnight in Argentina with the mayor of Progreso, Julio Muller, leading tributes.

And Muller revealed Horacio was never able to get over the untimely death of his son.

"2019 doesn't let up in shocking us with news in this town," mayor Julio Muller said.

"At 5 o'clock in the morning, the lady, his wife, rang me and she was very upset.

"The doctors were there but when I arrived at their home, he had already died.

"He could never overcome what happened to Emiliano.

"When the body was found he thought the case would be closed - but all the news that came to light about the pilot was very difficult."

Cardiff call for action after revelation Emiliano Sala pilot 'was not qualified to fly at night'

Sala was travelling in a Piper Malibu jet being flown by pulot David Ibbotson, who has yet to be found.

An initial search failed to find the plane before a privately-funded search saw his body found amongst the wreckage almost three weeks later.

Thousands flocked to his funeral in Progreso on February 17, where Horacio was pictured with Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock.

Cardiff released a strong statement calling for action last month amid revelations that pilot Ibotson was not qualified to fly at night due to colourblindness.

The Bluebirds are understood to have not paid the transfer fee due to Nantes as the dispute surrounding his death continues.
