Hopes in East Kilbride that Ramada hotel opening will inspire big business boost in town

Linda Fabiani hopes the opening of the new Ramada hotel in East Kilbride will encourage other big businesses to set up shop in the town.

The new branch is set to open it’s door next month in the Plaza Tower with 29 hospitality jobs being created.

Back in 2017, proposals were given the green light to convert the vacant floors of the EK Plaza Tower.

Now floors eight, nine, 10 and 12 of the building have been fashioned into a 102-bedroom hotel.

Ms Fabiani believes the new hotel will help to continue a positive trend in the town, following the opening of stores like Aldi and TJ Hughes in recent weeks.

Travelodge are also looking to create up to 20 jobs and invest £7million in the town as part of an expansion programme.

East Renfrewshire dubbed the 'happiest place in Scotland' in new poll

Linda told the East Kilbride News: “East Kilbride is an excellent place to do business and I am sure the opening of the Ramada hotel will be a boost to our town centre when doors open next month.

“We have welcomed new businesses to our town over the past couple of months, and it is important that trend continues.

“Growing our economy and supporting local jobs and businesses is important, which is why we will continue to focus on such matters in the East Kilbride Task Force.”

Baynes Family Bakers, which is set to have a minimum of eight part-time sales assistant posts, will open it’s doors in May 2019.

Aerial Adventures in the East Kilbride Shopping Centre are also recruiting for general assistant/activities co-ordinator, with two positions available. Retro clothing in the shopping centre are also hoping for new employees.

Additionally, new St Leonards Square ice-cream parlour ‘Sunday Sesh’ hope to employ six people.
