Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed that people will be able to use the NHS smartphone app for vaccine passports.
Mr Shapps said the health certificates, which ministers hope will allow foreign travel, will be available using the existing app.
He told Sky News on Wednesday: "In terms of vaccine certification, I can confirm we are working on an NHS application, actually it will be the NHS app that is used for people when they book appointments with the NHS and so on, to be able to show you've had a vaccine or you've had testing.
"I'm working internationally with partners across the world to make sure that system can be internationally recognised, as that's the way forward."
In a boost for hopes of foreign trips, Mr Shapps said domestic coronavirus statistics were looking positive as ministers consider whether to lift the travel ban next month.
"I have to say that so far the data does continue to look good from a UK perspective, notwithstanding those concerns about where people might be travelling to and making sure we're protected from the disease being reimported," he said.

Foreign holidays have been banned during lockdown and it is not expected to resume until May 17 at the earliest under Boris Johnson's roadmap, reports The Mirror.
Mr Shapps said he was expecting to reveal which countries fall into the "green", "amber" and "red" categories under the new traffic light system at the start of May.
He told Sky News: "The earliest possible unlock is May 17, so stage three of the unlock, we won’t have international travel before that."
